Rap is a lot like pro-wrestling or comedy, when you take it seriously, it loses it's magic. The only thing more annoying than fans of brain dead, borderline retarded, typical rap music, might be the pseudo-intellectual, yuppie, coffee house bunch. I don't hate Brother Ali's music but it is pretty boring at times.

But I think it's about finding a balance. Sometimes I like super hardcore shatter your face music, and sometimes politically charged stuff, sometimes that blatently ignorant goon shit, or outright satire, or rappers that talk about the human condition and relationships. It all comes down to personal preferece and viewpoint, and if the things an MC like Brother Ali says don't fit well with your views, then it can become disengaging rather quickly.
