If you're the best Wu-Tang member, you have to show it by dropping quality albums. Uncontrolled Substance is a 4.5/5. It's almost impossible for someone with Inspectah Deck's qualities to not have a classic or two. His ultimate album would've been during 96-98.

but raekwon had the worst verse on every song on OB4CL or maybe 2nd worse on some songs. ob4cl was a classic because of rza and guest spots(mainly ghostface).

u cant give credit to rae for that album being a classic.

its like saying phife dawg is an amazing rapper because of atcq albums

That's something I would have said a year ago maybe but you have to look at the facts. I think it's Raekwon & Ghostface Killah (!) album, but Raekwon is the one who came up with the whole idea and made a story out of it. Ghostface outdid him on every track but it's still Rae that puts the project on the table. Without the beats it may not have been the album it is, but would Enter The Wu-Tang still be a classic without the RZA beats or Liquid Swords? No. Lyrics and flow don't make the track, beat has to be classic as well.

How do you define artists? Ofcourse their capabilities, but in a musical sense to prove yourself you have to drop albums of the highest quality. Inspectah Deck didn't. We can talk about how it's underrated but at the end of the day it's no 36 Chambers, Liquid Swords, Ironman or Cuban Linx. Tical and Return To The 36 Chambers are also inferior to these albums, but Deck's is the worst out of all of those.

Also when you look at Raekwon he grew lyrically and his flow got better throughout the 90s. You can hear this from 36 Chambers to Cuban Linx to Ironman and especially on Forever and Immobilarity. You could see the progress, but with Deck you can see him drop the worlds greatest verses and then he will make one album that doesn't represent his qualities. He didn't make use of his potential. I know people are saying it's because RZA didn't provide the beats, but think about it for a minute; he's not performing great tracks (read: there are some songs that are definitely amazing written) that are on the same level as Wu albums. Raekwon actually did show it on Immobilarity, but no one sees this cause they're not listening to lyrics when they hear beats that are 'poor' (some are actually 5/5: Sneakers, The Table) compared to Cuban Linx.

On Phife & Q-Tip: that's very different, cause those were group albums. Performed by A Tribe Called Quest. Only Built For Cuban Linx is a Raekwon presents Wu-Tang kind of album just like Liquid Swords is a GZA presents Wu-Tang album. It's their idea's, their visions and they did come up with the sound. It's not only about getting slaughtered on a record, there's more to a track than that.
