NY Jets ready to get rid of Mark Sanchez, will explore trade market for former first round pick

In order for the Jets to pull off a deal, they would almost certainly have to absorb the bulk of Sanchez's guaranteed $8.25 million base salary for 2013. The likely out-of-pocket ceiling for potential suitors would be $3 million.

The Jets' need to replace Sanchez with a veteran signal caller could lead them to another player who has fallen on hard times recently.

The News has learned that Michael Vick, who is expected to be released by the Eagles shortly after the season, would be amenable to coming to the Jets if Sanchez is out of the equation.

"Bring it on," one Jets source said about signing Vick if he becomes available. "He was hit too many times (behind a subpar offensive line) the last two years."

Rex Ryan may be the X-Factor to land Vick, according to sources. Ryan has always had an affinity for Vick, who could potentially help save the coach from getting his walking papers after the 2013 season.

"(Ryan) loves him," a team official said.

They are saying it's unlikely that the Jets would be able to afford Alex Smith or Vick. They will probably have to stick with McElroy and then maybe pick up Charlie Batch too.

I could actually point to several different games where the opposing team has capitalized on the extra possessions Luck has given them early in games. Just because it isn't a pick 6 doesn't make it any less demoralizing cause it still leads to points and is still considered being put in a hole by their qb.

in all other games they have to make plays late to get wins where they might be down by a FG or a TD in the 4th.

what good is the guy who is good in an emergency (say: a house fire) when he's one of the ones who set fire to the house to begin with?

tom brady has 6 picks and has a better running game yet he also averages 40 throws a game. same with peyton manning. the colts simply run an offense centered around passing.

another horrible comparison. Manning and Brady are actually effective throwing 40 throws a game while Luck can't even lead a top 20 offense throwing that many times. Why would a team center their offense around passing when it isn't effective? I didn't realize that the best way of bringing along a rookie QB is by putting them into an offense that doesn't minimize their mistakes.

and again: How do you explain Luck's terrible numbers the last two weeks despite having a "effective" run game?

there are 5 games where RG3 throws less than 25 times and he has 30 attempts or more in only 3 games. saying they throw less because he's more efficient throwing early in games just doesnt make sense.

Maybe, just maybe, if Luck was able to complete better than 50% of his passes he wouldn't need to throw it 50 times a game better yet 67%. Or if he he didn't turn over the ball so frequently early on in games he wouldn't have to throw 18+ times ever fourth quarter in comeback attempts.

Andrew Luck is the only quarterback I've ever seen with a sub-80 QB rating, 18 interceptions with a TD/INT ratio of 1/1, leading the league, and a sub-55 CMP% and yet actually be as praised and heralded as he is.

griffien can run as fast as most WR in the league. why would shanahan not design an offense to take advantage of that? they're a football team centered around the run just like the 49ers.

Yes, the Skins are running team but the notion that Griffin "doesn't" pass or can't pass is ridiculous.

RG3 makes the runnning game go, with his legs, not his arm.

The only reason I stated this was because you were acting if RG3 benefits from having a great back. Luck has proven these last two weeks that he's just extremely inefficient period, with or without a running game.

your housefire analogy is a bad one. the ability to overcome bad plays and respond when the chips are down is a well sought-after trait in a QB. lots of great QBs throw a lot of picks. the mannning brothers, john elway, and brett favre to name some.

it also assumes them being down is always lucks fault and never on the defense, and that every pick is solely luck's fault. balls do get tipped in the air.

manning's backup last year only won 2 games with all of mannings weapons including reggie wayne. other than reggie wayne, all those players are gone, new coaching staff, no running game, no offensive scheme protecting luck from mistakes. they put the offense all on lucks arm. they're 9-5 despite all those picks so clearly their not hurting them that much.

RG3 is not being asked to win by throwing it, only to not make mistakes throwing it. similar to alex smith. he's being shielded as a thrower. the offense is set up to take advantage of his running ability and thats what he's doing. they're running the football very well and are winning games with a run option offense.

kurt cousins started their last game against the browns.

luck has shown great promise as a QB while Rg3 has shown great promise as a RB who can throw it.

Blair Walsh tied the record last week with the most field goals of 50 yards in a season, and with two games left there's a good chance he will break the record!!!!

you seem to be making a lot of presumptions. There are also alot of QBs similar to Luck that have flamed out entirely and ended up as epic busts, too.

The defense has bailed Luck out in at least two games when he was not playing well and already forced 10 turnovers for Luck this year.

the Colts got the #1 pick with one of the worst backup plans in history in Curtis Painter and a washed up Kerry Collins. The same Kerry Collins who was 2-11 in his previous 2 years on the Titans. Andrew Luck looks more impressive than he is just because of how bad Curtis Painter was.

Along with a top 5 WR, Hilton and Avery are speedy receivers that can break big plays. Hilton especially has played better than people give him credit for. Plus he has two good TE's.

Why do you keep stating they have no running game? Vick Ballard's going to easily crack 700 rushing yards next week and should double his TD production by the end of the season. He may even triple it.

Again Luck is overvalued because of how bad Curtis Painter, Kerry Collins were. Dan Orlovsky was the best QB on that team last year. That ought to tell you that their record last year wasn't any indication of how good that team could have potentially have been even with an average QB.

Jaguars, Jaguars, Bills, Jets, Chiefs, Browns, Titans, Titans, Dolphins, Detroit . when your SOS is weak enough, anything is plausible

in the DVOA rankings RG3 is 3rd behind Brady and Manning with 17.3%. Luck? He's 21st with -6.8%. A good indicator that throwing so many picks puts his team in a bind and him in a position to have to deliver all those late game heroics.

You have a lot to be proud of with the Vikings this season.. very possible MVP, new record holder, and maybe Super Bowl champ?
