Adrian Younge presents Souls of Mischief. Narrated by Ali Shaheed Muhammad from ATCQ
Old news, but could not find it around here
Today on Sway In The Morning, producer/musician Adrian Younge and hip-hop group Souls of Mischief announced that theyíd be releasing a joint album via RZAís Soul Temple Records, due out this September. In an interview with XXL earlier this week, Younge dished on the concept behind the albumówhich has its own storyline, as did Youngeís recent output Twelve Reasons To Die with Ghostface Killahóas well as the style and feel of the project, and the involvement of Ali Shaheed Muhammad. Check back later today for the rest of the interview with Younge.óDan Rys (@danrys)
ďThe next project is Adrian Younge Presents Souls of Mischief. Thatís my next big thing and Iím super happy about that. Itís a project that if somebody misses the sounds of 93 ítil Infinity meets The Low End Theory meets De La Soul Is Dead. If somebody misses that kind of sound, theyíll be happy to hear this album because it goes back to that time, you know. Kind of like how the Ghostface album [12 Reasons To Die] kind of went back to that time. And I love both styles of music back then, so Iím very, very excited.
ďAnd itís also a concept album tooóSouls of Mischief almost gets killed by some dude that was just crazy and the whole album just starts off with this incident, and then it blossoms into these different stories that are a result of this volatile incident. And thatís basically what that album is about. Itís dope though. Itís really dope. As far as stylistically, itís kind of like if Bob James and Herbie Hancock recorded with Q-Tip back in the day, you know what Iím saying. Thatís the perspective on the album. I was with Ali Shaheed Muhammad yesterday showing him some of the stuff and he was totally getting it because heís going to be the narrator on this album, like how RZA was sort of the narrator for Ghost [on 12 Reasons], thatís what Shaheedís going to be doing. Itís Native Tongues shit, you know what Iím saying, so thatís what Iím super psyched about.
ďI mean itís done now; Iím just touching stuff up. But itís pretty much done. Itís going to be released in September.Ē

Thanks for posting.
We do it for the people.
From donated clothes, to caps and gowns
It's a little shout to my black and brown
Folks that know the game, not in class to clown
Had the funny accent, look who's laughing now
See Samir came here to grind, and he slaved at
Every minimum wage job, but he saved that
Brought his sis here on scholarship to make stacks
Working as a surgeon she bought a whip, and payed cash
No time to whine, we just face facts
Lets fit 6 in the back and lets take that
To the best restaurants, make reservations
Since we out here, since they made reservations
For first Nations and they never made reparations
The Natives probably relate more to immigration
So this for y'all too, and I can't forget the Haitians
Here for an education. Its a celebration.
