Think Nas couldn't have come up with a better album after his best album Illmatic, most artists go downwards fast after the release of a classic, but It was written is a class CD. I especially like The Message, Take it in Blood, Affirmative Action, Suspect, If I Ruled the World and the Bonus Track Silent Murder has got a good vibe aswell. My rate for this album wud be 8/10

"It Was Written":a classic mafia-rap album, with a young but strong Nas ready to come out with a great second album.Nas' Lyrics are dedicated to the streets,to the crimes, just like a real member of a Family. Sometimes he's a gangster ready for war, sometimes a criminal captured by emotions...Strumentals are full of that italoamerican flavor, that contains guitars and maracas...For the beats Nas chooses his "godfathers" Premier and L.E.S.,but there are new names like legendary Dr.Dre or Trackmasters, too. Collaborations are near the album's theme,so we will listen Mobb Deep or The Firm, crew formed by AZ,Nas Escobar,Foxy Brown and Cormega (in "The Album" Cormega will be changed with Nature). Most beautiful tracks are "Affermative Action","I Gave You Power","If I Ruled The World" (great song featuring Lauryn Hill)...Second opera of the N.Y. rapper is a great noir theatre.Fo' the streets.8,5/10

9/10
Itshard for an emcee to out do his own greatness, especially one as young as Nas was when he dropped this joint. He came damn close though. IMO, this was a hell of a follow up to one of hip hop's greatest LPs ever. That's why he's the ILLEST!!! Half Man ~ Half Amazin'

Great classic album. Alot of nice beats on here and great guest appearances by Dre, AZ, Mobb Deep, and more. This is my second favorite Nas album right under Illmatic. The lyrics on here are great, Nas' flow and delivery are always on point, this is vintage Nas. I got it a 9/10. A must have for any Nas fan or any hip hop collection in general
