Jesus was an interpeter. He could communicate with god's messengers. He became an Icon becuase he would go into the big synagogues and tip over big tables of money for the organized religions. People in power couldn't have that so they crucified him. It's kinda like any great leader that got assassinated. For example, Martin Luther King jr., he tried to unite the people and was killed. So he was kind of a celebrity to the people back then and they worshipped him. So in that respect that's what made him so important. So yes we are all children of god. As for going to hell, Would you throw your children into a fiery pit for all eternity? Think about it.
