Default Vernon Reid's debut with Prince Paul and Teo Macero - Dope!

I had no clue about this album until just a few days back but i had to check it once i found out that it was produced by two of the best and most original producers in their respective fields, Prince Paul and Teo Macero who made wonders happen with the '70s music of Miles Davis and introduced the studio as an actual instrument and breaking up the traditional jazz form. very creative guys both of them and i found out that Vernon Reid is a beast on the electric guitar too, the album is called "Mistaken Identity" and was released in 1997 i believe. it's a lovely fusion of heavy metal, nasty funk, rock n roll, hip-hop beats and cuts and free jazz.

i can definitely recommend it, anyone familiar with Prince Paul and/or Teo Macero would want to check this out on the strength of their names since they was a part of the entire album. Vernon Reid is the guitarist of Living Colour btw. anyone else heard this one and if so, thoughts?

i can't believe people on here don't fuck with Prince Paul at least. this should be an automatic listen on the strength of the Gravediggaz and De La albums if nothing else. this shit is good too

dude... been holding this album since it came out. i remember being weirded out by it at first since it's so different from the Living Colour stuff....and i'm a HUGE LC head. i think the electronic beats actually put me off at the time. i gotta go back to it and see what i've been missing out on.

cool to hear that Benzo, i never really checked for Living Colour but the guitar playing on this was incredible so what would you recommend a beginner to check out from LC? btw i remember Vernon Reid was on the first Public Enemy album if i'm not mistaken, i think on "Sophisticated Bitch" but i might be wrong.

my personal favorite is Stain. they really went in a harder direction with that one and i think they pulled it off really well. it was the first album that bassist doug wimbish played on and together with will calhoun (big drumming influence for me) they formed a fucking killer rhythm section. they only had like 3 proper full-lengths in their prime before they started recorded and touring again after a loooong hiatus. Vivid, Time's Up, and Stain...those are the three to check. the two newer albums are good too but prime LC>>>>>>

Not trying to be a cunt, but you could have posted some more info about the album.

Or maybe some tracks.

From the description i was interested in hearing it.

Listened to a bunch of tracks on youtube, and it sounds great, but i can't find a link for it anywhere.

The whole album is on this guy's youtube channel though:

naw see thats not what I was saying. He doesnt really have a large volume of work outside living color and even that isnt a big catalog. But its quality and not quantity with him.you know? like , that rule def applies to Vernon Reid , everybody gives it up to him as a true master of his craft as far as guitar playing goes.

gotcha. i know there was a full semester course offered at one point at Berklee that was dedicated exclusively to breaking down his solo in Cult of Personality...fuckin nuts. when i saw 'em live two years back you could just see the genious pouring out from him a well as the other members. songs often morphed into rendentions that barely resembled the recorded original versions. and i can't remember ANYBODY who appeared to get more joy out of playing than Vernon Reid.

no problem, i see where you coming from. i believe the album is out of print so it shouldn't be a problem to post the DL link in here. if mods believe otherwise please delete this post, thx:
