I'm not talking about rap songs with themes like "It was a good day" by Ice Cube or "You Got Me" by The Roots. I'm talking about rap songs like "260" by GFK and Rae or "Stan" by Eminem. Or the kind of shit Slick Rick does.
There is a great story rap song called "HelloHiHey" with a twisty ending by The Life Savas. Can anyone recommend me more story rap songs? (Non-violent and non-sexual stories preferred.) |

Well, I don't know if this is much help... but there is the song Animal in Man by Dead Prez... but I don't know remember if it was a story. It was based on that one novel Animal Farm by George Orwell.
I could give you more... but they are all crime related.. Like Shakey Dog by Ghostface or More Trife Life by Mobb Deep. |

To me, in especially the first verse, Damien by DMX is storytelling at its finest.

Here are a few recent ones Breaststroke: Prince Ea - The Brain, talks about the history of great thinkers and the brain as an organ Fortilive - Fist Fights, talks about the history of hand to hand combat Canibus - Merchant Of Metaphors is a James Bond type of story Roc Marciano - Firepower, he takes you through a dangerous trip through the ghetto and some of my favorite older ones I have in rotation now: Big Pun - Fast Money, intense chase tale, vivid lyricism by Pun Funkmaster Wizard Wiz - Bellevue Patient, is comedy like Slick Rick Smoothe Da Hustler - Hustlin', he is one of the best and overlooked drug dealing MCs ever imo

Awesome, keep 'em comin!! I just remembered some more that aren't all about violence:
"Millie Pulled A Pistol On Santa" - De La Soul (Child abuse) "Deception" - Blackalicious (Getting caught in money and fame) "Charlie" - Last Emperor (A young boy's life in the hood) "Glen Close" - Binary Star (A stalker and crazy mom) "One For The Griot" - J-Live (Awesome set of stories with twists) "Love's Gonna Get Cha" - Boogie Down Productions (Has violence at the end) "Heist of the Century" - La the Darkman (About a bank robbery but no violence) "She Useta Be" - Devin the Dude (About how girls are hot when they're young, but ugly when old) Last edited by MAYOR QUIMBY; 10-15-2011 at 10:20 PM. |
