Maje Media Network

It's a bit irrelevant to the ppl on here but it's essentially an african micro-network. We do 10 minute shows with 6 episode seasons, real simple to do but composed like a show. We also show african movies on the cellphone

that's big because its the first time you'll be able to watch african movies on the cellphone. Nigeria has 91 million internet users and it's set triple next year, no exaggeration, actual figures. 71% thus far are mobile users, and movies have been patronized so intensely by the market that Nollywood is now the 2nd largest movie industry in the world (Hollywood is 3rd).

The numbers are astonishing but Nigeria has been 'catching up' in all means of media by inventing an africanized way to redo western ideas. Home movies for movies, and Afro beats for pop music and all have been incredibly popular in and outside of the country due to the youth boom in Africa (over half of Uganda is under 15 for example)

the one field we haven't touched in TV. Our TV networks are still archaic and we have to rely on more polished but culturally out of touch south african shows. South africa is usually the 'first' to do things due to the technical advantage and more organized economy but their ideas don't profit much because they don't resonate well with the rest of africa due to a huge cultural disconnect. South african media is isolated and seen as 'western' even when made by black, plus the have no swag, where as Nigerian media is accepted very quickly because Nigeria is a cultural microcasm of africa and there's no country we can't relate to in some profound way because we're diverse and niggerish.

Anyways, the channel is a constant streaming network just like a TV channel but for your cell phone. Watching TV is a hassle in africa and there's a desperation for more content and options. We africanize it. We make shows identifiable and simple to do, and focus on quantity which is the way they like it.

Plus movies on your phone is a million dollar idea.

check the site thus far, work is still going on

Good luck homie!

Wow @ 1/2 of Uganda's population being under 15. Nigeria seems to be a land of oportunities though.

On demand programming is the current model of streaming media. Ice cube puffy and master p have all failed trying the tv broadcast model of online video. What kind of software and storage architecture are you using? I also think it's funny that you completely threw up on the idea of market segmentation in the online video market. Now it's a million dollar idea. Lol it's cool tho. I'll give you this nugget of wisdom for free. Collect as much data from your audience as you can. The real money is in being able to describe your audience as much as possible.

Ice cube, Puffy and the lot are also catering to a different market. The american young audience has an abundance of options and consistent internet. There are 3 hit shows in Nigeria and two are from south africa based on western ideas (Big Brother Africa, Project Fame which is american idol), and the internet kicks off a lot as does electricity. We have more time with no power a day then with power, and everyone has to buy a generator and provide their own so turning on the gen just to watch TV isn't worth it. you're best bet is your phone for entertainment

There's a constant stream like a TV channel for this one, but you can also pick from shows episodes and movies that have aired already like Netflicks and when they're done it goes back to the stream. The reason the constant stream is important is because when you look at the time people spend watching internet media in comparison to TV, TV still leads by several hours where the internet is still in the minutes. The internet has in all reality too many options, and there's no where to start. To watch internet media you have to know exactly what you want to watch, find it, finish watching it and then think of something else.

the average person only have 2 things they wish to do on the internet on a given day, and from there they just lollygag because they're bored and there's nothing to do. If there's a constant stream they can check in and see if something interesting is on even when they don't have something in specific in mind, if they dont like it they can leave but they'll once against feel inclined to check back in 10 minutes later because a new show is on.

Also, because the internet has a problem with giving too much to everyone the new trend and best bet is to zone in on demographic niches that are as specific as possible. Our target is early 20s, urban, middle to upper class rebellious teen women. The age when they feel they have options and don' t have to think about life too much. Honing in on this demographic is what creates base loyalty because If i fit the description and there's 6 shows an hour 1 thing is bound to connect.

There's also the element of creating 'the moment' which is big with our demographic. We have what's called the twitterticker which is like a news network ticker at the bottom of the screen that will show what ever the Maje twitter retweets. If everyone is turned in seeing the same show at the same time you create a 'moment' which is what twitter's popularity is based on .

The idea has been similarly done by a radio podcast for nigerians called gidilounge. They have a hit show called 'no rubber' when they talk about funny outlandish shit and when it's on it becomes a trending topic among nigerians. If it was just on youtube it would never work, but this show is scheduled, it's new every week, and it thrives from the ability to create moments.

There are also a lot of flaws in the business models of Ice Cube and Diddy that orient around the inability to define a brand, provide interesting content, or utilize trends in media, software and communities. Their 'channels' also don't speak to anything that their audience wants because they can watch TV at will, their willingness to watch 30 min shows online is weak because online the human attention span drops drastically, and they're old and irrelevant which is huge to the hip hop generation.

The same way europeans hate americans. They'll talk shit but they watch our movies, listen to our music, bit our slang, wear our clothes, use our architecture, copy our ideas, and so forth. Nigeria has a pop appeal in africa and other countries don't unless they copy what's being done in Nigeria or go to Nigeria to make it. But like America, Nigerians are very slow to take in ideas from the rest of Africa and usually think their shit is irrelevant and faggy.

recently Azonto from Ghana has really taken over (genre and dance), but there's always 1 rare non nigerian trend that catches on. The problem is those countries cling on to them and do it for decades where Nigeria, like america is always changing and bringing in different trends.

french africans are still making the same gay coupe decale music from 1997 because it was a hit and not they're stuck on some one trick pony shit. Same with Ghana and Azonto. NIgeria is bigger and more diverse (again like america) so it's easier for them to keep bringing new ideas

We do original shows, and if movies are already made public via avenues like youtube you can show them as long as you give credit to the source.

right now we're filming Hennassy Babes, about three frienemies that skank out and do hilarious shit to each other, a reality show about a fashion designer that's also a player, and two talk shows, one more mature, and the other one about outlandish topics like eating pussy (our pilot episode)

Most shows are quick, easy to do, light hearted and intended to create 'moments'.

but style is right, getting your audience to create their own entertainment is key to internet success. Democratizing is everything. We'll invent more avenues for this though as shows expand. I have ideas for shows that make specific requests from fans like send in your videos of you discussing (insert topic) or doing (insert dance) and or your opinion on (insert event) then chop them up and air them. Real simple shit.

We're trying to start a show where a dude tours parties in his area like Wild On E only not fucking gay.

We're looking for more producers that are about their shit. This is a real easy thing to do as our other producers have found

and @SL33 the whole africa is a booming frontier market right now but Nigeria is the most populace one and thus the most attractive for return on investment. You just have to deal with abysmal infrastructure, a cut throat business environment and have a very open ability to adapt.

man those fags have been doing this shit since biblical adam. difference is there's internet now and they can make youtube threats.
it's scary to foreigners but the islamic thing is irrelevant outside of a specific geographic area.

nation wide though security is a MAJOR issue and getting worst. Again because of the youth boom continent wide. You have to basically build your own civilization if you want to do business in nigeria. it's really shameful. you own water your own security your own electricity.

i agree 100%. Nigeria has basically been 170 million people without a government for 50 years it a wonder that it's actually not worst. The current administration is the best we've had, ever, by being mediocre.

All these booms are from us getting shit that we should have had decades ago. There was a time when telecoms was growing at 500% annually, but it's primarily because people have desperately needed phones from 4 decades so when the floodgates were finally opened pandamonium broke loose. It's like thinking your a good cook because you gave a starving person a plate and he ate it fast.

The situation now is a lot of the state governors are doing an amazing job developing their states rapidly in a federalist structure but the development is in pockets

Rivers, Edo, Lagos, Awka Ibom, Cross Rivers, Enugu, Jigawa, Imo and Anambra all have good governors that are transforming the place, but that's 9 out of 36 and the other 36 are still primarily thieves and cavemen with arrest warrents in the UK.

When i say you have to build your own civilization i mean it. Regular people do everything, build schools, build roads, provide electricity, provide water. It's pathetic. All that 'oil money' shit makes 17 people rich and that's about it.

There's good news though like the modernization/rebuilding of Lagos

the governor that implimented this, Fashola is actually the most likely to win the next election because he's the most popular man in the country and the ruling party is too hated by everyone except the presidents tribe which is a tiny minority. If Fashola wins you'll be hearing about nigeria the way you hear about china.
