i also don't think it's a good idea to mess with the atmosphere too much cos it will affect the weather. growing more trees and plants is the best, easiest, and natural solution to the problem with CO2 emissions. the money saved on developing machines to counteract the CO2 can be invested in sewage recycling.

i'm sure there are better places they can put them. if they cut down any trees then they should replant some elsewhere. trees would counteract the CO2 emissions faster than plants would, imo, because over time, as trees get bigger, its surface area increases. it will also create new habitats for lots of wildlife.

don't put them in suburban areas or the city. they should put them near where they would normally pump raw sewage into the sea, so coastal areas or the country side.

A "poo-powered" VW Beetle has taken to the streets of Bristol in an attempt to encourage sustainable motoring.

The Bio-Bug runs on processed methane gas generated as part of the raw sewage treatment process.

Wessex Water engineers estimate the yearly waste from 70 average households would generate enough gas to run the car for 10,000 miles (16,100km).

Despite being powered by fuel created from sewage, the car does not smell unpleasant.

"It performs like a normal car - you wouldn't know it was powered by biogas," a company spokesman said.

'Surplus gas'

To use biogas as vehicle fuel without affecting vehicle performance or reliability the gas needs to be treated to remove the carbon dioxide content.

GENeco, part of Wessex Water, imported specialist "cleaning" equipment to treat the raw methane generated at the sewage treatment works in Avonmouth.

The spokesman added: Our site has been producing biogas for many years which we use to generate electricity to power the site and export to the National Grid.

"With the surplus gas we had available we wanted to put it to good use in a sustainable and efficient way.

"We decided to power a vehicle on the gas offering a sustainable alternative to using fossil fuels which we so heavily rely on in the UK."

The consortium has told the Nikkei that extracting hydrogen from sewage is cheaper and more environmentally friendly than traditional methods. It claims the process cuts carbon emissions by 75 per cent.
The process involves drying out the sludge to generate methane gas. The methane is then reheated to extract a high concentration of hydrogen gas.
The consortium is aiming to commercialise the process by 2015.
The consortium includes Toyota affiliate Toyota Tsusho Corporation, Mitsui Chemicals, Daiwa Lease and Japan Blue Energy. Toyota is not a member but is backing the research.





2. Production of Hydrogen from Sewage Sludge
The HIT Business Research Group has commenced verification tests using sewage sludge to generate bio-hydrogen at JBEC’s BLUE TowerTM new technology plant located at its development center in Izumo City, Shimane Prefecture.
Past small scale tests have shown that the BLUE TowerTM technology is successful in converting sewage sludge into gas with high hydrogen concentration, thereby confirming the potential of sewage sludge as a raw material of bio-hydrogen.
Through test runs at the verification plant, methodology and production of bio-hydrogen will be substantiated and followed by studies for a commercial scale bio-hydrogen production plant and a model business structure.
