Default Question for religious people

I just wanted to ask those who adhere to a religion, what is it that leads you to do so?

I'm not just talking about the belief in a God, I'm talking about things such as following everything the religion teaches, believing in everything the religion teaches, basing your lifestyle, making decisions, and forming opinions, based on what the religion teaches etc.

I'm also interested in what makes you think your chosen religion is any more valid or relevant than other religions?

What is it that leads you to give your religion such high priority, and show such commitment to it?

Obviously I'm referring to people who take religion seriously, and not the sort of people who say they're religious because they go to church every now and then.

I wouldn't say that I'm "religous" just don't like the term and its' ugly connotations but I do read both the Bible and the Quran because I do believe that it's the word of God within them (at least what wasn't changed by man in one shape or another) and I believe in what they say because if the Creator of this world gives you a manual to play by, I see it as a smart move to listen. As far as relevence, I would say that it's relevent to my life, so that is all that 's really necessary. I don't think, actually I know, that it's not my place to judge anyone else, so it doesn't bother me if they are on a different path, so long as it's a righteous one. We all have a road we're gonna travel and there are different ways to arrive at the same destination.

correct... the word religious has become negative nowadays... and the way of how i am religious does not fit into the meaning most people have in their head.

the system of Islam which i follow with both eyes opened... reveales many bounties..

you see.. when we do our prayers.. it is a form of meditation similar to buddhists..
when we are asked to cleanse ourselves for prayer.. we maintain hygiene which is important for both body and mind.

when we fast.. many values are tested and brought about for a person... patience being the greatest of attributes.

much of the other conducts are also beneficial if we use knowledge and convert it to wisdom...

religion must be a guide not a punishment...
i am absolutely liberal in my religious conduct and i hope i have shown my toleration and understanding throughout my time here...

these attributes are also part of that religion i identify myself with!

peace and blessings

You want to ask religious people why the believe what they believe, why? Why don't you tell us what you believe and then we can build from there.

Ummm, I asked because I'm interested in what makes certain people dedicate themselves to a religion. Is there something wrong with that? It's not as if anybody has to answer. What I believe is irrelevant, as my questions have nothing to do with me.

But why? why do you care? Do you have nothing to beleive in yourself? Why don't you share something first- because what you believe is relevent to you- so why ask us what we believe? It just seems like you want to pass judgement on other people unless you share what you feel. You want know why we believe what we believe, but I want know what you believe and then I can share with you what I believe- and i'm just curious, are you that pretty little white girl in your avatar?

i cant talk for every person in a religion, every1 got different reasons and views but, how i see it:

the people that take every command serious and live by it like that cos they find peace in that lifestyle, you wont find people saying there religion is any more valid or relevant than other religions, they just see it as there belief in there life and the other belief is the other mans not his, well thats how it should be for many, obviously every1 will be different but im not talking about confused people going to war about it just everyday life people on there own path but still apart of a religion, not trying to tell another man he is wrong cos i am right.

and they are lead to the religion same way we all are lead to beliefs, there very own life just leads em there, there life is there explination, and thats why its easy for commitment, i doubt its seen as commitment to them though cos it is a lifestyle when its like that.

all that is not for me but that is there system and i dont see the point in bashing it when its at that stage, but people dieing for the cause and that, or fighting other relgion, i cant begin to have a view on apart from its fucked up.

First of all, yes, that is me in my avatar, and thanks for the "pretty" compliment. It's very flattering. Not sure why you had to specify that I'm white, but never mind, I'm still flattered.

Now let me repeat myself. I "care" because I'm interested. And what I believe is not relevant to my questions. But since you seem to be so interested in me, and I really hope you're not just trying to crack onto me because I'm a "pretty little white girl", I don't believe in any religion, or the concept of a religion as a whole. As for my beliefs on God and whatnot, just like everybody else, I don't know, and never will know, unless I'm more than a rotting maggot infested carcass, or a collection of seedy ash, when I die.

Sorry if I offended you for assuming your white, for all I know your half chinese and a quarter peurto rican, and I made an assumption that autimatically stereo typed you, but it's just suprising to me that a pretty girl with blonde hair would come post at a Wu-tang music sight, but then again it's not so suprising because now I recall a little blonde girl I went to middle school with, when the Wu's first album came out saying, "you wanna bring the mother fuckin' ruckus!", and I apologize for calling you Little white girl, I didn't mean to come off offensive, your probably a very cool nice woman.

To answer your question, I think the reason us "religious" people are so loyal to "religions" or our way of life is because we are not just like everyone else- meaning we know the creator exists, we know there is something or someone greater then us. I can't speak for everyone but for myself, through prayer i've seen the difference it has made in my life and I can honestley say I can see the positive outcomes that come from prayer.

When I was child my mother raised me catholic, but even as a child church didn't have all the answers I seeked. Then when I was about five or six, my father took me to a sweat lodge, and as the years progressed I went to more ceremony's and my understanding of things became more clear. Now i'm believe in way of life that can only be described as "the red road". This is of course, is in a nutshell, theres actually more to it that could never be condensed in one post or even one phone conversation, you would actually have to know me and visit with me on a regular to really understand what i've came to know.

The truth is I don't belief my way of life is any more valid then anyone elses' way of life or religion. I believe that the creator gave all people a different way pray, whether it was the prophet Elijah, Jesus, native american church, the sacred pipe, the Koran, or the bible- they all teach a way to enlightenment and peace, if you keep an open mind to there message and what they teach.

HI MISS NOEL: well coming from a former christian, i based my lifestyle on "the walk" to avoid being too deep into this world, rather than basing MY WALK on personal belief, u know? like i wud invest my faith into Jesus to help me get thru things, and help me see that there IS a higher power, but even before i my life was once-devoted: i always thought that religions are basically the same: GOOD: GOD-----EVIL: THOSE WHO HAVE LIVED.
NOW PLEASE, NOEL, I WUD LIKE 4U 2VISIT MY THREAD "APPLIES 2ALL W/A BRAIN" THANKS!~
