The Smell of The Future

If you wanna call yourself Intelligent, you have to know something about Rocket Science
you cannot be considered Intelligent if you don't know anything about rocket science Rocket Science is the Science of Rockets

Ok Ill start things out.
I think the most important aspect is rocket science (when they are in space) is conserving fuel. Knowing when and where to aim the rocket when it blasts off of Earth. Look at Voyager 2. It didnt visit all 4 gas giants just to study them, but when it gets close to the planets, the small arch in the orbits give them a gravity boost for speed. Otherwise they would have never gotten that far out there in space that quick. An incredible billiard shot indeed. Same technique was used in Apollo 13 or else they may have never gotten back to Earth. In the 70s when Mariner 10 was launched for a Mercury mission, they aimed it straight for Venus at the right time.

i suppose it could define what intelligence is, but the true intelligent won't limit intelligence to those fields of knowledge. |

knowledge is limitless just like space. rockets may help us reach further than we ever have imagined.
ever built a "mental rocket"?

man i was just about to write a whole essay on rocket science.
yes its a metaphor, knowledge is limitless as PrinceRai stated, but a rocket will eventually run out of fuel.

i think the future of space travel won't be on rockets, they're not practical

this thread was a sarcastic attempt to begin dialogue on what the popular belief says you have to know in order to be considered "smart"
example can rocket scientist be stupid ? can a person with various college degrees and a good source of income lack common sense ? and so forth

At first, I thought that was the point. But then I thought you were making an analogy.
I know people considered stupid who have good paying jobs. I know people considered smart who are not satisfied with the little money they make. |

The term is a metaphor from the difference between intelligence and technical ability. The metaphor in casual speaking ignores the difference.
Rocket science is technically complex and requires mastery in many mechanical fields...more than any type of engineering. It moreover is a metaphor to state how complex or straight forward a given task is (its not rocket science). It takes years of precise planning, calculating, testing before launching a rocket. Technical abilities do take some intelligence in order to learn. In rocket science many advanced concepts you need a lot of visual understanding that not many people are able to learn in a given time frame . Of course that doesn't necessarily mean they are socially intelligent. Many scientists are socially retarded.
