Default Madvillainy

I'm new to this MF DOOM person and recently purchased this album. My very first impression is he sounds strikingly like a mix of Slick Rick and Killah Priest. I think if it wasn't for Madlib's dope samples, this album would of been trash. I wasn't overly impressed like some of the people on the net claiming he's the best MC ever. He sounds like he's freestyling and he often talks about things that have nothing to do with the track. Maybe I am more of a fan of written rhymes, but I just know this cd was mediocre.

Is there another album he has where maybe it's better? School me.

Might take time for you to realise Doom's brilliance but in my opinion, lyrically, Madvillainy is his best album.

Try reading the lyrics from the cd cover. If you d/l for free then ill just say fuck you. But if not give it a chance, mf doom is actually a lyricist.

The lyrics on Doomsday are better by a bit. But as a whole album Madvillainy is just the fucking shit. That album just flows so nicely and just drips of dope residue.

Don't know yall. Peeps saying this is his best effort? I can't really get into it. Dude sound like he's talking. I need someone to yell into the mic especially when I'm paying $18 to buy your shit. Sound like you mean it. I've listened to this album at least 10 times already and it isn't growing on me. Might be for the weed smokers only, not sure. But the verdict is in: 4/10.

I think first you need to appreciate the wordplay and wit, rather than worrying about his delivery etc.

That's how I felt when I was first exposed to DOOM, and actually my first album was Madvilliany also. I just though he was alright (but the beats intrigued me).

It will take some time for his style to sink in, then you will be hooked. DOOM is a baaaaaaaad mc. If you can find Operation Doomsday, get it.

Yeah, Doom is definitely an acquired taste.

I got so hooked on the track he did with Ghostface on Danger Doom.
It's all about Madvillainy for sure.
