Default The Five Elements of Creation

There are two creations described in The Book of Genesis. There is the story of the physical creation of man, and then there is the story of the spiritual creation of man. We can distinguish between the two by seeing whether animals or humans come first. We know that through evolution, man came after animals. So when the Bible talks about animals coming before humans in Chapter 1, we know that we are discussing physical evolution. In Chapter 2, we see that now humans, or rather the new species of humans, came before animals. We now know that this is the story of spiritual creation.

We can gain further insight by analyzing the context in which these two different stories appear. The first verse of Genesis tells us exactly what the first Chapter is talking about.

"In the beginning, God created the Elohim, the language of the heaven and the language of the earth."

It's showing us how the Elohim were physically created. In Hebrew, the original texts were not divided up. We can plainly see where the "second chapter" would begin by analyzing the context. "These are the chronicles..." is always used in Hebrew to indicate that we are starting a different tale.

"These are the chronicles of the heavens and the earth when they were created."

-Genesis 2:4

The above verse should more accurately be divided as 2:1. With this new division, Genesis 1, would be discussing the physically creation of the Elohim. Genesis 2 is now discussing how these Elohim spiritually created man.

There is something very significant to understand about this process. The same forces are at work in both the spiritually world, and the physically world. The sages had a phrase to describe this sacred relationship: "As above, so below".

"And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light day, and the darkness he called night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day."

-Genesis 1:3-5

"And God said, let there be a barrier in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. And God made the barrier, and divided the waters which were under the barrier from the waters which were above the barrier: and it was so. And God called the barrier Heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, a second day."

-Genesis 1:6-8

We see that water, barrier, and light, are each mentioned five times. Barrier is heaven, or the sky. So we have fire, water, and air. Let's continue.

“And God said, the earth shall send forth vegetation, seedbearing plants and fruit trees that produce their own kinds of fruit with seeds, shall be on earth: and it was so. And the earth sent forth vegetation, plants bearing their own kinds of seeds, and trees producing fruit containing their own kinds of seeds. God saw that it was good. It was evening and it was morning, a third day.”

-Genesis 1:11-13

We now have trees, or wood.

“And God said, "Let there be lights in the barrier of heaven to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years, and let them be lights in the barrier of heaven to give light on the earth." And it was so. God made two great lights—the greater light to govern the day and the lesser light to govern the night. He also made the stars. God set them in the barrier of heaven to give light on the earth, to govern the day and the night, and to separate light from darkness. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the fourth day.”

And now we have the idea of a duality between the sun and the moon. The sun represents the male, and the moon represents the female.

So in totality we have:

Fire (Male)
Fire(Female)

Water(Male)
Water(Female)

Earth(Male)
Earth(Female)

Air(Male)
Air(Female)

Wood(Male)
Wood(Female)

Which give us the ten sephiroth. Good and evil we caused by the splitting of these ten creational energies, and then they reformed into five pairs. This is represented by the word Elohim, because in Hebrew it has five letters and is a plural noun.

And how fitting is it that man is truely created by eating from a tree, which represents wood. The wood sign represents the spirit of man!

This is an exact duplication of the teachings of other religions. Perhaps the most obvious would be that of the Tao. Which has the exact same five elements, except they substitute the word metal for air. Taoism also teaching about yin, female, and yang, male, energy!

Now, keep in mind that this is physical creation. But now let's also remember that these same forces are what create our spirit. And these same forces correspond to the astrological signs!
