Nas: “Hip-Hop is Dead”

The music culture of hip-hop has flatlined, according to the title of Nas’ upcoming album.

Billboard.com reported that Nas’ forthcoming solo album is titled “Hip-Hop Is Dead” and will be released in late September of this year.

Nas made the announcement of his album’s scheduled release last night at New York's Radio City Music Hall while performing on the first leg of labelmates the Roots’ two-night stand.

“I'm working hard for y’all. I got an album coming out in September,” Nas stated, finishing off his roughly 15-minute set.

The title “Hip-Hop Is Dead” comes after an even more controversial title that Nas revealed to the Daily News. He told the New York newspaper that the album would be called “N-gga.”

“"That's the name right now," he told the Daily News in February, before spelling the race-y epithet.

“Hip-Hop Is Dead” will be the Nas’ first release on Def Jam records. It is one of two albums to be jointly marketed by Def Jam and Columbia, Nas’ previous label.

The album will reportedly feature production by heavyweight producers Just Blaze and Kanye West and presents the possibility of the long-awaited collaboration with Def Jam president Jay-Z.

What do yall think of this???? The fact that its his album name is kinda wierd but i guess he's gonna go back to the 90's Nas style that he had... a collab wit Jay-Z should be interestin too.

I really hope he goes back to some 90's style hip-hop. There is too much shit rap that people think is good. I LOVE the title of his upcoming album, at least Nas isn't afraid to admit it.

yeah, i fucking HATE hip-hop puns.

most rappers don't really choose good titles for their albums. most of them are pretty lame, the only Nas album that has a good title in my opinion is Illmatic.

As long as AZ's on there, It'll be aight.. Nah, just joking, definitely a better title than the old one, and as y'all already said I hope he'll go baack.. And a AZ collab should be on it. He wasn't on God's Son, he wasnt on Street's Disciple, so he gotta be on the new one!!

Yuh.. I agree with AZ being on the album.. NaS do a album with AZ on it = classic.. NaS without AZ = Gods Son and Street's Disciple.. "Nasdaq Dow Jones" is a corny name too but I get what he tryna do by it. But NaS still went soft.. he'll have to impress me a lot with this joint as if he were restarting his career. And he basically is with Jaz-O.. I mean Jay-Z.
