i havent watched it yet either
but
it kind of makes sense that something being constantly heated and for all intents and purposes 'getting warmer' (wheres Al Gore?) would be getting larger

heat expands
cold contracts

right. so where did all this extra material necessary for earth's expansion come from? is the center of the earth a magic matter factory? is it becoming hollow? is it a chewy chocolate candy and if so how many licks would it take to reach it?

sorry bw but this reeks of trick knowledge.

yeah thats what is not known. Perhaps the earth's core was denser millions of years ago. the ocean's volume of water also needs to be explained. This is assuming the earth's mass was always constant.

maybe everything is becoming less dense at a equal rate

so that way everything stays at the same relative density

that way - water would be less dense as well
but
we wouldnt notice since everything else is becoming less dense at the same proportion (including us)

keep in mind
the size of a electron is nothing in comparison to the amount of empty space within a atom

it is the movement of the electron that gives the atom its physical presence

that being said
if materials became less dense and their components traveled at a speed relative to the decreased density
there would really be no difference at all in the world we perceive

except that it would get hotter as it grew bigger
maybe we would soon be able to throw rocks at the moon

No offense taken. I welcome the conductive criticism. Very good points

I can buy into the whole core issue that you stated but the water volume is the tricky part. If you look at the models it shows that the water levels remained constant. Maybe the water levels covered most of the land mass at that time. That may explain why ancient fish fossils were found in the middle of land masses.

Did you ever hear how much space dust comes to Earth on the daily?

According to current estimates, about 40,000 tons of extraterrestrial matter hit the Earth every year.

I understand your concept, but don't think that it's really transferable to this situation.

Let me understand you right, let me write it out. Draw the shapes of the plates onto a deflated "round" baloon, blow the baloon up, then observe the baloon. If my imagination serves me correctly, the lines on the baloon will not move, therefore the size of the area inside of the lines will expand with the size of the baloon. Am I understanding you correctly?

So are you stating that the continents should've expanded with the expansion of the Earth? Please check me if I'm understanding you incorrectly.

Interesting post V4D3R.

If that's the case, lets just stretch the 60 million years when the oceans started forming and say its 1 billion years.

40, 000 tons * 1000 = 4.0*10^7kg

(4.0*10^7kg) / (1.0*10^9 years) = 4.0*10^16kg over 1 billion years.

mass of the Earth = 5.98*10^24kg

(4.0*10^16kg) * (5.98*10^24kg)= 6.7*10^-9 hence a very small fraction almost 7 billionths of the Earth's actual mass today was from that extraterrestrial matter that caused accretion with the Earth.

I didn't bother subtracting 4.0*10^7kg from the Earth's mass before dividing because its neglegable anyway.

^^So in Laymens terms, are you saying it's an insignificant amount? Not enough to make the Earth grow?

ya vader's right. the earth is growing because its gravity pulls in more matter than what escapes from the earth's surface. but the guy in the video is arguing that at some point the super continent covered the entire surface of the earth and some kind of unexplainable expansion left us with the continents separated between oceans.

what's wrong with pangea?
