Wrong section. You'd be wanting to ask this in the Audio Booth really.

I'll give you a quick run down though of what I know:

Pro Tools comes in two forms, the LE and HD varieties.

HD is the super expensive version (tens of thousands) that's pretty much industry standard for recording studios, that comes with it's own DSP cards and so on.

LE is what I have in my home studio and relies on the power of your Mac/PC. I got the slightly outdated hardware with the last compatible software release for my PC for 200 including the 8 in/8 out balanced interface and the software (Pro Tools LE 6.4).

I haven't used Reason in years, but as far as I remember it was best for creating music from scratch rather than processing recorded audio. That said, I know Reason has developed a lot in the versions since I last tried it. To do both midi production and audio processing/mixing, Cubase (if you got a PC) or Logic (if you got a Mac) are good bets. The latest versions of Pro Tools have caught up with the midi production side of things, but sadly my hardware will not allow me to use these versions.

In many ways, what suits you will come down to how serious you are and whether you are happy to d/l software rather than actually pay for it. If you want to pay and don't want to spend a fortune, get Reason as it's an all in one package that's very user friendly.
