Default Method Man cancells his Staten Island Advance newspaper subscription

haha, sorry, but it's been a slow wu-news week with everybody reposting the same "meth was high and had car repo'd" and "raekwon video shoot" threads.

this is the only new news from the entire article...
I spoke briefly with Meth, who didn't comment on the recent seizure of his Lincoln Navigator by the IRS (but he copped to canceling his Advance subscription, blaming it on a sloppy carrier). Even after several hours, he seemed happy to be there.

Staten Island's Marooned Music news

Getty ImagesCan Raekwon, Method Man, above, and the rest of Wu shine on "Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II" despite splintering? Will it get major-label distribution, and succeed where "8 Diagrams" failed? Who knows. But new single, "Wu Ooh," certainly is a return to form.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Much has been written about Wu-Tang Clan's infighting, their lasting influence on hip-hop history and whether they will ever rebuild a pyramid now ancient in the modern world of rap music.
I do not have answers to these questions. But I did attend the video shoot for "Wu Ooh," a new single featuring verses from Clansmen Raekwon, Method Man and Ghostface. It's presumably a track from "Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II," Raekwon's upcoming sequel to an album that dropped in 1995, during Wu's domination of the game.
Part of the successful business model of breaking up the group to put out a bevy of solo records, "OBFCL" was a major release. When I interviewed Raekwon for AWE in early 2008, during the height of controversy surrounding members' frustration with the RZA's production on Wu-Tang's "8 Diagrams," the man born Corey Woods was already looking forward to this project. But that was before the album was on- and then off-again from Dr. Dre's Aftermath Entertainment, before the release date and distribution went through many changes. The album is now slated for a 2009 release.
The video was partially lensed in Stapleton and the Park Hill section of Clifton, but "party" scenes were shot at The Players Club, a strip joint in a tundra-like hood of the Bronx. The shoot wasn't quite as glamorous as one might imagine. The dancers were mostly clothed. There were certainly plenty of things being smoked, but the alcohol consumption was low -- nothing that lived up to the wild tales of Wu-Tang's beginnings, but that's to be expected.
"Wu Ooh" boomed over the club's bass-heavy sound system while cameramen made pirouettes around the giant rectangular bar, filming a large crew bouncing on the pole-adorned stage in the middle. It hit the right spots: The sampled scratch of vinyl, the stuttering, deep-kick drum, the circular Motown a cappella vocal, all delivered behind Meth's directive to "throw those Ws up!," Ghost's hungry, breathless cries and Rae's smooth, syncopated lines.
RZA, who produced the track, presided from the VIP section while someone braided his hair. The look on his face was inscrutable, but his presence was a good sign, as was the obvious relaxation of Wu members as they moved through the room between shots, getting their pictures taken with extras/fans.
I spoke briefly with Meth, who didn't comment on the recent seizure of his Lincoln Navigator by the IRS (but he copped to canceling his Advance subscription, blaming it on a sloppy carrier). Even after several hours, he seemed happy to be there. There seemed an overall feeling of anticipation.
Can Raekwon and Wu deliver despite splintering? Will "Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II" get major-label distribution, and succeed where "8 Diagrams" failed? Who knows. But "Wu Ooh" is certainly a return to form.
