Before integration, Black students went to shabby Black schools where they were taught by Black teachers who relly cared. After intergation, Black students either went to shabby Black schools where they were taught by white teacher who didn't give a fuck OR nice white shools where they grew up being treated like shit.
Before integration, Blacks couldn't eat with them, party with them, or live with them, so you created a sense of family with your own people. After integration, Blacks could go hang around whoever they wanted, so you started liking that better than doing it with your own kind (even though they still didn't like you!) Before integration, Black students had raggedy books, but they finished shcool. After integration, Black students still had raggedy books, and now they didn't even finish the damn book. Before integration, money stayed in the Black community because you shopped with each other. After integration, money leaves the Black community in six minutes because you can buy white shit now. Before integration, Black men married Black women and raised Black families. After integration, Black men chased white women, vice versa, and what happened to the Black family? Before integration, Black people didn't get paid as much as white people, and had worse jobs. After integration, ain't shit changed. Before integration, Black people couldn't live in white neighberhoods, so they had to make the best out of the hood. After integration, Black people ould move into white neighberhoods, but all the white folks would move out right after, so it turned into a hood. Before integration, Black people thought white people were pretty fucked up. After integration, Black people think white people are pretty fucking great. Before integration, Black woemn looked like Black women. After integration, Black women look like white women. Before integration, there were about 8 gay Black men out of ever 1,000. After integration, it's more like 80 out of 100. And of the 20 left, 10 are in jail and 5 are crackheads. |

"I think that every slave could say that, that slavery was messed up, but that segregation is better. And that segregation is messed up, but that integration is better. I say that integration is messed up and that freedom is better."

So, it is the assertion of this thread that black people had it better in this country during the pre-integration era.
While this rhetoric is militant, can ANY of the black people on this board, who probably come from lovely homes with supportive families, who have probably received some form of extended liberal schooling, and have every opportunity in the world to succeed, REALLY agree with this assertion? |

This thread made me think of this joint.
So fuck a demonstration, seekin reparations That's why some felt better off during segregation We still mingle with others but it's deeper cuz At least back then we knew who our people was But I can't comment on shit. Except for the fact we can talk about how shit used to be. Or make it be. Peace Last edited by RandyP; 06-16-2009 at 10:50 PM. |

if you dont know where youre coming from u dont know where ure going.
the integration of schools stripped the africans in america of the knowledge of their history of kings and queens, the compications and dreadful experiences of the first slaves that were brought here, etc crucial information that would mend the way we interact with each other. we lost our self-knowledge.
