Did the Supreme Wisdom go by any other name whether in the temple or in the mosque?

Why does the Nation of Islam refer to 'our' birth names as slave names? What's the purpose of doing that? How does that (referring to a person's birth name as a slave name) effect the interaction between the people? How does referring to 'our' birth names as slave names honor our parents?
