The important idea there wasn't that they were FIRST, but that the menstueral cycle was used to tell time, which is fairly interesting.

what it does suggest is that mathematics comes in many forms and is not restricted to any way.

and as osyris also brought up.. the mentrual cycle like the nile.. came to be a matter of time.. which arguably also comes under certain wings of maths itself..
