I came across this article today and it made me very upset.
http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/07/21/nor...sts/index.html Do you think that re-segregating schools is right or wrong? I don't know if any of you guys remember this but two years ago congress tried to force something similar like this in certain states but it didn't work. Here's what's going on. The Raleigh's school board wants students to attend their neighborhood schools based on their income level and "growth issues", whatever that means. Listen, we all know that in cities like Raleigh, NC and others have blacks and Mexicans who live there. Now, we all know that blacks and Mexicans probably are low income while most whites live in the burbs and make a decent amount of money. Sometimes, that isn't the case, though. I don't know the income level for blacks and Mexicans in Raleigh, but based on this, it seems like it's mostly about race and income. It's simple. The school board doesn't want to be diverse. But is that fair? Let's talk about this for a moment. Some kids don't come from the best families. That's normal. When the new school year starts this August, most kids will have new clothes, shoes, and supplies while the kids parents who can't afford that type of stuff just will have to do without. This means those kids are outcasts and WILL be picked on just because he/she doesn't come from money. That's normal and sad. Then there's the race thing. What this means is that certain schools don't believe in a quality education based on a child's race, income, and "growth issues". Is this fair?
