Don Cherry never said that he doesn't support illegal immigration. Actually, he never even mentioned illegal immigrants. He complained that LEGAL immigrants don't do anything to honor Canadian veterans on Remembrance Day which is Canada's version of Veteran's Day. Apparently, it is custom to wear a poppy flower on Remembrance Day to show your support. He was more than likely complaining about the large population of legal Arab and Asian immigrants. You are right that he didn't say anything that warranted a firing, but it's kind of like an "OK, boomer" moment. Is it really that important that everyone wears a fucking poppy?

The problem with this world is that idiots on the left, and idiots on the right (like yourself) watch and read news sources that tell them exactly how they are supposed to feel about a subject and they see key words like "immigrant" and draw conclusions without doing any real thinking on their own.

If I had to guess, Hockey Night In Canada wanted to send the old man out to pasture anyway, and just used this fake outrage as an excuse.
