He has never done that before, I don't think he would do that now. Does the ghost dog Japanese version count?

Any new production works rza has now, he should go with a new artist or group. I believe it would good.

I don't really see him wanting to do that either, but just a thought

well Ghost Dog music was made specifically for the movie, I'm just hoping to hear a compilation of never used 90's beats someday

There actually are quite a few samples on ABT, but the other half of the album is live jam band stuff.

So the sample clearance thing is a cop out. There are tons of rap songs where they replayed the sample and never paid for anything and it still sounds good, RZA could do that. He could sample younger retro soul groups who understand sampling and not 80 year olds and their estates who want to rape you on publishing. He could make weird beats like he used to where the sample is disguised.

And nobody's saying RZA shouldn't be musical. I think Forever and 8 Diagrams are fantastic examples of him combining synths, live instruments and samples. Actually he did some of that on LS and CL too. The samples were always the core though, it never got away from Hip Hop because it still had the drums and that Lo-Fi sound.

ABT strayed too far. Raekwon said 8 Diagrams was too much hippy, guitar shit. It really wasn't, there's 'Heart Gently Weeps' and a few little flourishes on other tracks but it still has a Wu-Tang feel with hard drums and a lot of samples. It was almost like RZA made ABT to spite Raekwon. He produced most of it with a live band, the drums weren't hard or Hip Hop sounding, and there was too much busy instrumentation and 60s style guitars.

RZA isn't interested in producing a good clan album these days. I'm not confident that Ghost or their collective beat picking Voltron will be able to do better though.

You know what possibly happened? RZA coulda had them spit on alot of String type joints at first but after all the beef he changed it around. 8 Diagrams is good , but spoilt by all the fuss surrounding it during that time. But it myst be frustrating to get given beats that arent feeling to spit on. Its ashame RZA doesn't build onthat 36th Chamber style of beats in modern form, how sick would they sound with this digital HD surround sound age!!

I agree sha. 8d was PERFECT for wu. It was dark, had instrumenta and samples blending perfectly. Rza just made a few weird choices on that album that bring it down; ie gtrs on unpredictable, 7/8 hooks on odb cut, changing wolves beat; but the beats themselves are actually pretty good.

Abt was too synthy. Too live. Only the songs with samples imo really came off. Its just sad cuz even on that album, abt2 and ruckus in b minor are great wu songs; just like imo campfire, gun will go, og wolves were. I consider all those modern wu classics. Of course they are t 36 chambers quality but for wu fans, they top tier.

I wish rza took TEN years to create an album. Fuck it. Do 5. Like his own donuts or something. Go all out. But he only does it when a check is there and that means it has a release date he has to hit. How much actual work goes i to the so gs idk.

A better tomorrow 2 prolly his best work in a minute tho. Just feels lush.

I do not know why he cannot just make beats from scratch. He can sample birds chirping at four o'clock in the morning or a female cat in heat yowling and find some way to make it hot. We all know how strong Rza's imagination is with sampling. He can take just about any ordinary sound and make something ill out of it. If he is worried about the birds or the cat coming at his ass for sampling them without permission, just give them credits in the liner notes. "Contains a sample of birds chirping and a cat in heat outside my window." Problem solved.

Hopefully since he's been making wack beats for 15 years he'll start to feel stagnant with that too

Those producers/artists are not as famous and big as a Wu-Tang Clan release so they risk it and dont clear. Usually, copyright holders will only come for the big bucks guys, that's worth suing for. Dont nobody care about the samples on my album for example, but they would on a Wu-Tang Clan album ofcourse.

word, I'm also aware of that argument, just surprised that people like Madlib/ DJ Premier can fly that far under the radar I suppose.
Even Marciano's last few albums I bet sold more and made more money than ABT.
It is what it is I suppose

I think that we can't forget RZA is a 50 years-old guy now it's natural he's not the same dude he was when he was 25. He's running so many business I see on instagram and other social media that I guess he can't just go to studio and spend 2 months doing beats there. I guess he's even not interested in that anymore.

His status is solidified and he needn't prove anything to anybody. He's RZA and he will always be remembered as one of the greatest producers ever regardless of the shitty beats he may be releasing today (tho i ain't hatin cause he still can drop some dope stuff)

"I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth" (Rev. 3:15-16)

lol they literally have whole sample clearance apps now. Old musicians have realized that getting sampled is the new wave in making their music profitable and relevant again, especially since acts like Ray Charles and Otis Redding have found new audiences from Kanye's sampling. Rza still samples so it's a lame excuse, he just makes bad music now and doesn't think hip hop is something worthy of him or respect which is the same narcissism that cause him to fuck up a billion dollar concept music group. And stealing his mentally ill cousin's money.

He just makes bad music and isn't enthusiastic while doing it. He has 0 real niggas in his corner that will say 'that shit's wack', nor will he listen if they come around. I remember he had one version of Wolves I liked because it sounded like so U-god Pinky Ring disco shit. Then he found a way to snip it's balls off. I have never heard a human snip the balls off an concept as abstract as a song. I didn't even know songs hand dicks but he found it and took the balls off. It was really weird. Dude has bad taste and a warped view of himself.

Dude isn't doing more than Jay-z so he needs to dead that bullshit lol. He's not doing 1/4 of what Jay-Z is doing but Jay's fans are still satisfied with Jay's work. Jay is growing as an artist, like him or not. He's also not the same person he was at 25, but unlike Rza, the maturity adds to his music. I don't think Rza has enough perspective to actually mature. He has believed he's the smartest person in the room for so long that he sees continuing to act like he's been acting as growth. If he pivoted in another direction, it will shatter the house of cards he has built around being right to begin with. If Rza actually matured he would behave more like Masta Killa, Meth and Gza. Everyone else in the group has matured as well at their own paces but those three genuinely come off as well developed adult men. Last year Rza was literally grooming Azalia Banks' trust so that he can sell her to Russell Crowe lol. He's very stunted.

    also, Donna is a God

    confirmed.

that's not true. The algorithm of any platform will identify copyright violations and send it to the person that owns the copyright. They get in trouble for letting violators pass so they don't care and won't risk it. And again, Rza still samples, just poorly.
